Weft knitting is a process in which raw materials (yarns) are fed into the knitting needles along the weft direction, and are sequentially knitted into loops in a certain order, and are knitted together to form a fabric. The loom that completes this process is called a weft knitting machine. Weft knitted fabrics are characterized by one or more yarns in each row.

The raw materials used in weft-knitting production are generally natural fibers (such as cotton, linen, wool, silk, etc.), chemical fibers (such as polyester, acrylic, polypropylene, etc.), composite fibers (composite of natural fibers and chemical fibers), and new fibers (such as Modal, Tencel, acetate fiber, milk fiber, etc.) are usually selected according to the use and requirements of the product and production conditions, so as to make full use of the weaving properties of the raw materials.

I. Classification of weft knitting machine:

The types of weft knitting machines used are different for weaving and producing various types of knitted structures or molded products. These knitting machines can be classified according to the number of cylinders (ie needle beds), the type of cylinder, and the type of needle used. Single-sided weft knitting machines use single needle cylinders for weaving production. There are trolleys that use crochet needles (commonly known as spring needles) as loop-forming parts, and ribbed machines, cotton wool machines, and large circular machines that use tongue needles. Double-sided weft knitting machines use double cylinders for weaving production, such as rib machines and double-sided circular knitting machines. 1.Single cylinder weft knitting machine

1, single cylinder weft knitting machine

Commonly known as "single knitting machine" in production practice, it has two types.

(1) Flat type machine——Fully formed flat type crochet machine with crochet needle and single needle bed flat knitting machine with tongue needle.

(2) Round machines--with trolleys with crochet needles and single-sided large circular machines with tongue needles, sweaters (three-thread weft inserting machines, flannel machines), terry machines, single-sided jacquard machines, etc. .

2, double cylinder weft knitting machine

Double-cylinder weft knitting machines are commonly known as "double-sided knitting machines:" in production practice. It is divided into two categories:

(1) Flat-type machines-There are two-bed flat-type crochet machines with crochet needles, and circular knitting machines (flat-knitting machines) and double-side-face machines with tongue needles.

(2) Circular type machines-The prototype knitting machines using tongue needles include cotton wool machines, rib machines, large circular machines, double-sided jacquard machines, etc.
